Principal Market & Competitive Intelligence Specialist - Surgical

The Principal, Market & Competitive Intelligence role provides key support related market and competitive insights and is a key contributor to enable decision making across Surgical, the largest Operating Unit in Medtronic driving nearly $6B of annual revenue.

This role is at the forefront of informing the organization of key dynamics and trends (competitive, market, environmental, etc.) to inform and enable critical decisions across the organization

  • Drive cross-functional processes to develop robust market & revenue model projections for Surgical through extensive collaboration globally and cross-functionally

  • Align on macro, technology, procedural, and competitive trends and how our markets are influenced as a result

  • Incorporate internal and external market research as needed and play a key role in partnering with the business/regions to conduct market studies

  • Manage and improve upon tools and dashboards where over 500 users leverage the data to support their work

  • Support competitive monitoring programs driving insights as it relates to traditional and emerging competitors around the world and communicating timely on key impacts to the Global Surgical business.

  • Partner with key business stakeholders to guide and assist them in thinking through strategic scenarios across market and environmental trends through a series of forums (e.g. strategic projects, War Games, 3rd party engagements, etc.)

Location: The preference is to have an employee on-site in North Haven, CT – 3 days per week in office (no relocation), but we can also consider candidates to work remotely from the U.S.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Ability to perform in depth data analyses while deriving meaningful insights across market and competitive data.

  • Strong project management skills including stakeholder management, effective communication, and driving for results

  • Conduct environmental scans, organizational positioning analyses and other studies. Coordinates input from all major business units/regions to facilitate the integration of individual business unit plans with the Surgical plan.

  • Communicate effectively with business partners to provide timely insights of relative market and competitive dynamics and align on collaborative business point of view.

  • Participate in various war gaming/ scenario planning projects across markets to define strategic maneuvers and opportunities to win against our competitors.

  • Utilize primary and secondary market research in support of Surgical Innovations’ market objectives.

  • Develops long-range objectives and strategic plans for corporation or major division by identifying internal and external strategic issues that could affect growth and profitability.

  • Scans environment for business opportunities, maintains surveillance over market, and may perform financial analysis of acquisition candidates.

  • Develops and monitors profitability, productivity, and growth targets.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree with 7+ years of experience in Strategy, Finance, Medical Device, or other applicable cross-functional jobs

OR

  • An advanced degree with 5+ years of experience in Strategy, Finance, Medical Device, or other applicable cross-functional jobs

Nice to Have

  • Experience in medical devices and/or healthcare industry.

  • Experience in a high performing consulting, strategic planning, or finance environment, demanding a sophisticated approach to understanding strategic needs, financial/market models, competitive trends and business impact.

  • Hands-on proficiency with Excel macros, and the potential to use advanced decision support analytical tools (e.g., decision analysis software, Power BI, etc.).

  • Strategic agility, structured thinking, and intellectual curiosity.

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and translate complex concepts into actionable insights.

  • Collaborative approach, familiarity with matrix organizations and how to successfully work cross-functionally.

  • Knowledgeable regarding the array of primary research methodologies and can design, implement and analyze results efficiently.Knowledgeable regarding available secondary market research and can utilize these to provide analyses of the market, referrers, payers and competitors, etc.

  • Characteristics include the following: self-starter who takes initiative, interpersonal capabilities that lend themselves to working collaboratively toward productive ends, ideally some demonstrated and meaningful project management and, or product development skills, understanding of finance and valuation analytics, motivator for others, ability to interface with senior executives (including ability to define and structure problems), poise.

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
