Medtronic Senior Compliance Specialist, Operating Unit Compliance Officer Team in Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Sr. Compliance Specialist is an individual contributor reporting to the VP, Operating Unit (“OU”) Compliance Officer. In this newly created position, the Sr. Specialist will support the OU Compliance Officers on special projects that span one or more OUs to help ensure the OU Compliance Officer team delivers on its strategic priorities. The Sr. Specialist will also serve as Compliance Officer for one or more OUs.

This position closely collaborates with the OU Compliance Officers and OUs to identify emerging risk areas as well as areas needing further compliance support; suggests tools and other solutions to support standardization and optimization of the CO roles; provides the initial compliance analysis and recommendation for risk-calibrated solutions; uses data to enable valuable insights; collaborates with colleagues in the Office of Ethics and Compliance (“OEC”) and in the businesses to implement best-in-class guidance and tools; and enables the OU Compliance Officers to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Medtronic Ethics and Compliance program while supporting the OUs in achieving their strategies.

The ideal candidate for this role should be able to take initiative, execute despite complexity and lack of clarity, have a strong analytical mindset, and be comfortable working in a dynamic environment. We are seeking someone with previous legal or compliance experience.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

The Senior Compliance Specialist provides expertise and a broad range of support for the OU Compliance Officer team and OUs. Key responsibilities include:

  • With a goal of consistency or “informed inconsistency,” collaborate across OEC to identify opportunities to further standardize and streamline the roles of OU Compliance Officer and Associate Compliance Officer;

  • Support governance, schedules, agendas and reporting across the team;

  • Support the development, execution, and tracking of annual and long-term plans that address ongoing strategic compliance programs and initiatives in the OUs; help track OU Compliance Officer activities and performance against annual plans; establish and provide routine and ad-hoc metrics and reporting to leadership;

  • Identify opportunities to better leverage data insights and help implement them;

  • Identify emerging risks and trends as well as gaps or areas not well-calibrated to risk and make suggestions for addressing such matters, including proposing, developing, and implementing improvements;

  • Support the OU Compliance Officers with projects spanning more than one OU;

  • Provide direct Compliance Officer support to one or more OUs;

  • Lead by example to model a culture of ethics and integrity; exercise sound judgment and courage as a trusted advisor to the team.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of legal or compliance expertise; or, an advanced degree with 2+ years of experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting ethics and compliance initiatives within a large organization;

  • Consistent demonstrated success in executing on projects;

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives simultaneously with demonstrated experience influencing action through others;

  • Strong analytical skills; and

  • Demonstrated experience building positive relationships and working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including with employees, senior management, external parties/authorities and customers.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
