Medtronic Sr Firmware Engineer in Fridley, Minnesota

Firmware Engineering position for an experienced Engineer. This person will be a key member of the engineering team developing neuromodulation research systems. This role will entail equal amounts of Firmware Development, Firmware Test, and System Test capabilities. The successful candidate will develop and drive firmware applications, follow quality standards and practices, and create manual and automated test cases to thoroughly verify complex firmware applications. The Firmware Engineer will design, implement, test and debug embedded firmware applications. The candidate must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve project and business objectives.

A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Develop and implement firmware code and corresponding unit tests.
Develop and review firmware requirement and interface specifications.
Develop and review application/system architecture specifications.
Develop and implement firmware verification test strategies.
Develop test environments and test cases.
Write and execute test plans.
Contribute to peer code reviews.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field required
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
Embedded C programming experience
Demonstrated experience with embedded processors, microcontrollers, and development tools such as emulators, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes
Commitment to sound firmware engineering principles and design
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in embedded software
Strong knowledge of software design, development, debug and test practices
Outstanding communication skills to collaborate within and across engineering and research project teams
Regulated industry (medical, military, avionics, etc.) experience
ARM Cortex M3 programming and tool experience
Working knowledge of preemptive multitasking systems
Knowledge of low-level embedded communication hardware and protocols
Knowledge in interpreting hardware schematics
Familiar with a variety of firmware verification and validation strategies

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico. Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary by job-related knowledge, skills, experience, etc. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
