The Manufacturing Director | Site Leader is responsible for all safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and people aspects in our newest manufacturing site in Dexter, Michigan. This position leads all phases of manufacturing and technical functions to advance existing technology to produce the highest quality products for Medtronic’s Cardiac Surgery operating unit. This leader embraces innovation and continuous improvement through the alignment of people, strategy, and culture. Cardiac surgery represents end stage treatment in the care continuum for many cardiovascular diseases and this OU provides an intimate relationship with the Cardiac Surgeon and Cardiac OR by offering an unparalleled depth and breadth of portfolio.

This position reports to the VP, Manufacturing, Central Region.

The Manufacturing Director | Site Leader is responsible for leveraging our MPS (Medtronic Performance System) to establish Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC) targets to run the business, select the key initiatives and projects to improve the business, and collaborate with the Operating Unit and Global Supply Chain functions to set breakthrough objectives and capacity planning to transform the business.

A Day in the Life

Problems and issues faced are difficult, and may require understanding of multiple issues, job areas or specialties. You will actively make improvements of processes, systems, or products to enhance performance of the job area. Analysis provided is in-depth in nature and often provides recommendations on process improvements.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead and build winning teams to further our mission: alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life by building products in a safe working environment with the highest quality and speed at the most optimal cost.

  • Leading by example in the use of MPS (Medtronic Performance System) to drive continuous improvement and talent development.

  • Implement and execute comprehensive operations strategies that assure success of the organization and accountability for safety, quality, production, cost, and people.

  • Plan and administer budgets, including making budgetary recommendations on capital expenditures and labor requirements.

  • Implement cost reduction, waste reduction, quality improvement, and productivity improvement programs to ensure attainment of key performance metrics and sustainable performance improvements.

  • Represent Medtronic in the community and in professional organizations at a local or regional level.

  • Plans and administers procedures and budgets.

  • Selects and develops personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the production function.

  • Management Skills: Management of Financial and Material Resources, Critical Thinking, Project Management, Management of Personnel Resources, Collaboration and Productivity Software, Effective Communication Skills.

  • Functional Skills: Machining and Manufacturing Technologies, Proficient computer skills, Data Science and Analysis, Lean Manufacturing and continued improvement, Managing Quality.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant Manufacturing Management and Leadership experience within Medical Device or a Regulated Industry with 7+ years of Managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant Manufacturing Management and Leadership experience within Medical Device or a Regulated Industry with 7+ years of Managerial experience.

Nice to Have

  • Degree in Engineering or Technical Sciences.

  • Medical Device Manufacturing experience.

  • Breadth of background across numerous roles/functions within Manufacturing.

  • Demonstrated use of Lean Manufacturing principles to achieve results.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and successfully execute a strategy.

  • Proven track record of building organizational capability and talent.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to interact with all levels of employees.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
